Screencast Video
I used Camtasia to record and edit the instructional video for training teachers to use Canva for digital storytelling activities.
Overview
Need
While the instructors are aware of the need for digital storytelling activities in the classroom, they lack the skills to make digital stories of their own because they’re not familiar with digital composing activities such as making videos or slideshow with a narrative. As such, they require tangible assistance in creating digital stories with Canva to design activities and support the students with the activity.
Learner
Language instructors who do not possess the skill to create digital stories with Canva
Goal
At the end of this training, the instructors will be able to create a digital story with Canva using various visual elements and templates.
Strategy
- Personalization Principle & Instructor Persona: I included a talking head of myself within the video to include a personal element in the instructional video, allowing learners to feel supported and engaged.

- Signaling Principle: I added markers with additional notes at a point where the learner needs to carry out a certain behavior on the screen so that I can guide their attention.
Material
Camtasia was used to develop this material since the technology is suitable for screencast videos. Screencast was chosen as a strategy because the content was based on procedural knowledge, which is the knowledge of how to do a task rather than a chunk of verbal information.
